Hello, dear Hatchery readers!
My short piece on the ups and downs of being a writing parent, “The View from Here,” is up on Literary Mamma’s “After Page One” series … and you can read it here!
In other news, I’ve recently returned from a residency at the wonderful Virginia Center for the Creative Arts where I was working on a new collection of essays.
While I was there the polar vortex descended, a transformer blew and we spent a good eighteen hours without power (read: heat!). It was quite an adventure, but I was awfully snug in my little corncrib studio. If you are looking for a writers/artists/composers residency, I can’t recommend VCCA enough.
But now it’s back to THE REAL WORLD.
Your essay gets it just right. Writing, being a parent, and finding time to just be a person doesn’t always fit into a single day. So yes, the long view. Some of it gets done now, some later, some right now, some when you don’t even realize it.
